“We are Now at the Cross Roads Where Promise and Peril Collide” AI Could Change Everything by 2026 AI began in the 2010s, was fueled by repeated breakthroughs in machine learning, particularly deep learning, enabled by vast datasets, powerful GPUs, and algorithms and Innovations from researchers like Geoffrey Hinton. Applications expanded from image recognition and natural language processing to autonomous systems and generative models, transforming industries like healthcare, finance, and transportation. Ethical concerns, including bias and privacy, have grown alongside AI’s capabilities, prompting ongoing debates about regulation and responsible development. Here we are in mid 2024, I say mid, because AI is increasing in potential monthly. And Elon has just launched his GROK version 4 supposedly the most powerful out there for us wee folks. What you don’t see is AI’s power requirements, which is staggering. In the U.S., data centers accounted for 4.4% of electricity use in 2023, expected to grow to 12% by 2028. Google is funding the development for three new Nuclear power sites and Elon Musk is shipping an entire power plant across the globe to Memphis for his Grok AI. Where we used to think of our utility company as providing the power for our towns and cities. They are needed for just one AI server and its peripherals! Below are two videos. The 1st is Glen Beck’s introduction of the 2nd, Musk's presentation of GROK4.
